Sophie Alda
Sophie Alda is an artist, designer, maker, and facilitator whose work explores the intersection of function, sculpture, and narrative. She approaches materiality and tactility with playfulness, challenging the hierarchy between practical objects and art within craft.
A founding member of Hackney-based Clay Collective, she helped establish a democratic, cooperative space for makers to share skills, collaborate, and support independent practice. She is also dedicated to education, using making techniques to deepen artistic understanding. Since 2015, she has developed and delivered workshops for leading institutions, including Tate, Camden Arts Centre, Whitechapel Gallery, The Crafts Council, and Somerset House.
